Schema markup checker: what’s checked

Schema markup (JSON-LD) is how a page asks for a rich result: review stars, prices, FAQ answers, breadcrumbs in place of a URL. Google only shows one when the markup has the properties it requires for that type, so markup that looks fine can still earn nothing.

This checker reads the JSON-LD on every crawled page and tests each item against Google’s rules for its type — required properties first, then the recommended ones that make a result fuller. It also catches markup that doesn’t parse at all, and pages with none.

4 Structured data Structured data lets search engines show a rich result instead of a plain link. These checks look at the schema markup your pages declare.
  • JSON-LD failed to parse

Structured data that fails to parse can’t earn rich results. Fix the JSON-LD syntax and validate it.

  • Missing structured data (JSON-LD)

Structured data (JSON-LD) can earn rich results (stars, FAQs, breadcrumbs) that stand out in search. Add schema.org markup relevant to the page.

  • Structured data missing recommended properties

The markup qualifies for a rich result, but Google uses these properties to make it fuller and show it more often (an image, an author, opening hours, a brand). Add the ones that apply to your content.

  • Structured data missing required properties

Google shows no rich result for markup that lacks a required property, and lists the page as invalid in Search Console. Fill in the properties named — usually a field left empty in your SEO or e-commerce plugin, or a theme template — then test the page with Google’s Rich Results Test.

Frequently asked questions

Which schema types does it check?

The ones Google shows rich results for: Product, LocalBusiness and its common subtypes, Organization, Article, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList, Event, Recipe, JobPosting, VideoObject, and review ratings wherever they appear.

Is this the same as Google’s Rich Results Test?

It applies the same required and recommended properties, but to every page of your site at once instead of one URL at a time. Use Google’s test to confirm a fix on a single page.

Does it check microdata and RDFa?

It detects them, but validates JSON-LD only — the format Google recommends and most SEO plugins output.
